Weimer, 78, Somerset, died unexpectedly Jan. 16, 1995 at Somerset Hospital. Born Sept. 1, 1916 at the Weimer Farm in Milford Township, a son of Reid A. Weimer Sr., and Susan Elizabeth (Hay) Weimer. He is survived by his son, Attorney Douglas Reid Weimer, Somerset and Washington, D.C.; two sisters, Leah MacMillan of Middletown, Md., and Leafa MacArthur of Gastonia, N.C.; brother, Earl H. Weimer of Somerset; and by numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by wife of 26 years in 1973, Thelma L. (Lint) Weimer; parents; infant brother, William T. Weimer; and sister, Nellie Wingert. He was an alumnus of California State University (B.S.), and Indiana University (M.ed.), and did extensive graduate work. He was a combat veteran of World War II and served tours of duty in North Africa and Italy. He taught in local schools from 1937 until his retirement from Rockwood High School in 1972. He was employed by the Somerset Borough from 1973 until his retirement in 1981. He was serving as a borough judge of elections and doing extensive substitute teaching in county schools at the time of his death. He served on the advisory board of the Office of Aging, was a member of Samuel's Lutheran Church, I.O.O.F., V.F.W. (District Commander 1969-70), Eagles, R.S.V.P., Somerset Grange, Cardiac Club, and Trinity Fellowship. He did substantial volunteer work with the veterans, Meals on Wheels, Somerset Hospital Auxiliary, Cancer Society, Somerset Memorial Day Committee, and other local charities. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the Robert H. Halverson Funeral Home, Somerset. Services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Friday at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Somerset, with Pastor John Palko officiating, assisted by Rev. Glenn E. Sadler. No viewing in church. Interment Husband Cemetery. The family requests in lieu of flowers that expressions of sympathy be made to the Reid Weimer Scholarship Fund, c/o Fike, Cascio & Boose, Scull Building, Somerset, Pa., 15501.
