Welch of Friedens, aged 48, one of the best-known residents in Somerset County, passed away in the Somerset Community Hospital at 9 a.m. Wednesday. Mr. Welch, who had been in failing health for several months, was able to be about until last week. He was removed to the hospital Tuesday in a critical condition. The deceased served as a school teacher for a number of years in Somerset County prior to accepting the position of deputy recorder of deeds in 1916. He served in that capacity during the four year administration of John E. Custer of Hooversville. Mr. Welch was appointed deputy recorder by Harry Arisman, who was elected successor to Mr. Custer. In 1924 he was named deputy prothonotary by Harry F. Bittner and served four years in that capacity. Mr. Welch also served two years as deputy prothonotary to Miss June Werner. Following his long term of service in the courthouse, Mr. Welch was employed as a clothing salesman until his health started to fail. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Everett Welch. His father preceded him in death. Surviving are his mother and a brother, Joel Welch, Meyersdale. Funeral arrangements are in charge of Charles R. Hauger, Somerset mortician.
