Welker, 85, of Largo, Fla., died Oct. 8, 2002, at Bay Pines Veteran's Hospital, Hospice Care unit. Born Feb. 7, 1917 in Friedens, son of the late Cloyd Sr. and Gladys Welker. Survived by: wife, Mary (Nicholas), with whom he would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in December; two children, Janet (Tracy) Narby of Libertyville, Ill., and Terry (Jean) Welker of Dallastown; two sisters, Gerda Reed of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Romaine Trent of Johnstown; one brother, Cloyd Jr., (Tootie) Welker of Friedens; four grandchildren, Megan (Dave) Mitchell, Mindy Narby, Darren (Ann) Welker, Dana Welker; and two great-grandchildren, Jenna and Jack Mitchell. A graduate of the Somerset Township High School in Friedens. Served with the U.S. Army in Germany during World War II. Worked for I.X.L. Dairy. Retired from Cooper Jarrett Trucking Co. in 1982 after driving for more than 2,000,000 miles. The Welkers moved to Largo in 1983 where they enjoyed their retirement years. Member of the Friedens Lutheran Church. Volunteered for many different organizations and was a great helper for his many neighbors. Memorial service at 1 p.m. Friday at The Chapel at Corral Club House in Ranchero Village, Fla. officiated by Rev. David Jettords, and nephews, Revs. Gary and Jeff Nicholas. A second memorial service will be held at a later time in Friedens. Interment, Memorial Park, Somerset.
