He was born Dec. 12, 1915, in Friedens, to Nellie and Ralph Welsh. He was an avid baseball and Jeopardy fan and loved to read. He enjoyed traveling and visiting his grandchildren. He married Florence Derencin Dec. 19, 1941, at Somerset. They had three daughters and two sons. Charles made the Army his career. He was a Veteran of World War II and received the Silver Star for heroics in the Pacific Campaign. He was given an Honorable Discharge in 1961 after 44 years of service. He retired as a major. Charles was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Ralph and Stephen. He is survived by his wife, Florence of Kalispell; three daughters: Susan Welsh of California; Nancy Conners and husband Douglas of Kalispell, and Cynthia Mash and husband Eugene of Arizona; two sons: Robert Welsh of Utah and Mark Welsh and wife Lucinda of Virginia. He had nine loving grandchildren. A private family service is planned. The family suggests donations can be made to Lutheran Social Services, 17 Second St., E., Room 207, Kalispell, Mt. 59901.
