"Pappy" Welsh Sr., 82, of Cooks Mills, Hyndman, died April 1, 1988, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, Md. Born Feb. 6, 1906 in Bedford Valley, Md., he was the son of the late Emmanuel W. and Nellie (Bucy) Welsh. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Annie (Keefer) Welsh and two sons, Leonard and Lennie Welsh. He was a retired construction foreman for the E.J. Albreigt Company, Chicago, Ill.; a veteran of World War II, decorated with a Good Conduct Medal, a Purple Heart, and the European-African Middle Eastern Service Ribbon. He was also a member of the VFW Henry Hart Post 1411, Cumberland, Md., and a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans. Survivors include his widow, Martha E. (Parsons) Welsh; five sons, James Welsh, Cumberland, Md.; George Welsh, Hagerstown, Md.; Robert Welsh, Wilmington, Del.; Kenneth Welsh, Wellersburg; and Milton F. Welsh Jr., Neversink, N.Y.; four daughters, Mrs. Evelyn Gray, Mrs. Freda Long, Mrs. Betty Ridgeley, all of Cumberland, Md.; and Mrs. Dorothy George, LaVale, Md.; two stepsons, James Parsons, Hyndman; and John Parsons, Wellersburg; 35 grandchildren, 11 step-grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren 16 step-great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Friends were received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, where services were conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Leslie K. Stallings. Interment, Restlawn Memorial Gardens. Graveside military honors were provided by the VFW Henry Hart Post 1411 and the Cumberland American Legion. The Republic, April 7, 1988 [W0872]
