He had been in poor health for more than a year, and during the last few months of his life his family was aware that the end of his earthly pilgrimage was close at hand. He suffered severely from dropsy. He was born at Sugar Creek, Tuscarawas County, Ohio, Dec. 16, 1853, and was married to Elizabeth Sketler of New Bedford, Ohio, Dec. 1, 1878. To them were born four sons, as follows: Elmer, deceased; John and Levi, of Elk Lick Township and Allen, of Millersburg, Ohio. In addition to his three surviving sons, he is also survived by his wife, 14 grandchildren and 4 great- grandchildren. He located near Compton's Mill about 15 years ago, soon after his son, John, located on the old John C. Livengood farm, later known as the Bissel farm, and spent his last years in retirement. The funeral service was held at the Oakdale Amish Mennonite Church, about a mile north of where he died, and was conducted by Revs. Jonas B. Miller and Shem Peachy. Interment was made in the church cemetery. Mr. Wengerd was a faithful member of the Amish Mennonite Church, and was a man of many good qualities. He had a large number of friends, who held him in high esteem, and who will miss him. Meyersdale Republican, April 16, 1931
