Born December 22, 1924, in Meyersdale, he was a son of the late Ralph H. and Hilda (Boyer) Werner. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Alma E. "Betty" (Lewis) Werner; one son, Gary A. Werner and wife, Juliana, Shaft; one daughter, Lynda M. Durst and husband, John O., Jr., Oakland, Md.; one brother, Harold C. Werner and wife, Jane, Meyersdale; one sister, Maybel E. Griggs and husband, Louis, Cumberland, Md.; one sister-in-law, Dottie Werner, Cumberland; three grandchildren, Gregory A. Werner and wife, Melissa, Corriganville, Md.; Jamie L. Durst and wife. Beth, Leesburg, Va.; Jason W. Durst and wife, Karlene, Cincinnati, Ohio; seven great grandchildren, Ashley Werner, Glenn Werner, Alexis Werner, Madison Werner, Savana Werner, Jacob Durst, Isabella Durst; three nieces and four nephews. Mr. Werner graduated from Meyersdale High School and served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II, as an instrument specialist. He was a retired sales manager for Singer Sewing Machine Company and sales representative for Potomac Edison Company, Landis Office Center and Keggs Office Supply. He was the first president and treasurer for Corriganville Light and Improvement Association. Mr. Werner was past assistant of Scout Master-Troop #50 Boy Scouts of America, Mt. Savage, Md. He was a member of Charles E. Kelly Post #112, American Legion, Mt. Savage, and member of St. John's Church, Grantsville, Md. Friends were received at Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, Md. on Wednesday, March 29, 2006 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services were conducted in the funeral home on Thursday, March 30, 2006 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Jerry Rogers officiating. Interment was in Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were grandsons, Greg Werner, Jason Durst and Jamie Durst; nephews, Dale Werner, David Griggs and Don Johnson.
