He was born May 5, 1892 in Brothersvalley Township, the son of the late Josiah C. and Lydia (Stahl) Werner. His paternal grandparents, Christian and Dinah (Smith) Werner, resided in Northampton Township, and his maternal grandparents, Samuel and Drucilla (Walker) Stahl, resided in Pine Hill. He was also preceded in death by two sisters and one brother, Mrs. John H. (Daisy Matilda) Rhoads, Mrs. John M. (Ida Belle) Suder, and George Frederick Werner, who died at the age of 19 months. He is survived by his wife, Aneita Elizabeth Munce, with whom he would have celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary in March. He is also survived by two sons: William Joseph of Lynn Center, Ill.; and Todd Harlan, of Hopwood; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Peter P. (Edna) Mognet of Somerset; and a brother, William L. Werner, of Meyersdale. He was a member of the Third Presbyterian Church of Uniontown; a life member of Lodge No. 651, F & AM. Tall Cedars of Lebanon; a member of Menallen Grange, and the American Legion Post 51. He was a graduate of California State Teachers College, class of 1915; was a veteran of World War I, and was a sales manager for 42 years for Somers, Title and Todd of Pittsburgh. Funeral services were held January 16 at the Crawford and Haky Funeral Home, Hopwood. Rev. Karl Bowman Jr., his pastor, officiated. Interment was in Lafayette Memorial Park.
