Born Jan. 18, 1914, in Meyersdale, she is the daughter of the late Adam and Martha (Sipple) Hersh. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Loren N. Werner; four brothers, James Hersh, Edgar Hersh, Cad Hersh and Howard Hersh; a sister, Edna McGraw; and a half-brother, John Hersh. Surviving are her two daughters, Patricia Kaylor, and husband, Ernest, Cresaptown, Md.; and Susan Gordon, and husband, Louis, State College; one brother, William Hersh, and wife, Virginia, Rawlings, Md.; a grandson, Keefe Kaylor, Cresaptown; a step granddaughter, Becky Keifer and husband, Dave, and their son, Ryan; a step grandson, Andy Kaylor, wife Gina, and their daughters, Zoe and Kyra, Portland, Ore.; long time best friend, Mary Shives, Grantsville, Md.; and many nieces and nephews. She is a 1931 graduate of Allegany High School and attended Catherman's Business School. During World War II, Mrs. Werner was employed as an interviewer in the Personnel Department at the Celanese Corp. She left the Celanese in 1950 to start her family. Later, Mrs. Werner worked for her brother, Carl Hersh, in the office of the Sinclair Refining Co. on River Avenue, until its closing. After the death of her husband in 1970, Mrs. Werner began a second career as an employee of the State of Maryland. She worked at the Board of Education, Allegany County Health Department and the Thomas B. Finan Center. She was the secretary of the maintenance department at the Finan Center, having served in the capacity from the groundbreaking until her retirement in 1996 at the age of 82. Mrs. Werner attended Centre Street United Methodist Church. Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, where a funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday. The Rev. Lloyd B. McCanna officiating. Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers will be Keefe Kaylor, N.T. Smith, Reid Smith, Terry Hersh, Jimmy Hersh and Bob Shives.
