"Pap" Werner Sr., 91, Meyersdale, died Sept. 20, 2007, at Meyersdale Medical Center. Born April 17, 1916, in Brothersvalley Township, a son of the late Howard and Edna (Hay) Werner. Also preceded in death by a brother Richard Werner; and sisters, Martha Immich and Alice Zorn. Survived by his wife, the former Elizabeth J. Crowe. Paul and Elizabeth had a marriage union of 69 years. Also survived by four children, Elizabeth Ann "Bann" Younkin, and her companion Ken Ohler, Salisbury; Mary Katherine Hahn, Meyersdale; Paula, wife of William Kretchman, Meyersdale; Paul H. Werner Jr. and his wife, Teresa (Sanner), Meyersdale; eight grandchildren, Jeff Hahn, and his wife, Gwen (Long); Steve Hahn; Susan (Kretchman), wife of Fred DiPasquale; B.J. Kretchman, and his wife, Jennifer (Louie); David Kretchman, and his wife, Laurie (Miller); Amy (Kretchman), wife of Joe McKenzie; Charlotte Werner, and her boyfriend, Matt Thorsen; and E'vet Werner; 10 great-grandchildren, Kurt Hahn; Josie, Jacqueline and David J. "D.J." McKenzie; Olivia, Devin and Amelia Kretchman; Bryce and Braden Kretchman, and Sarah DiPasquale. Also survived by a sister, Mary Critchfield, Green Cove Springs, Fla.; brother-in-law R. William Zorn, Austintown, Ohio; and special friend, Sonny Herring, Meyersdale. A member of the Amity United Church of Christ Meyersdale, where he served in the choir and as deacon and elder on the consistory for 35 years. He was caretaker for the Reformed Cemetery for 23 years. Paul was a 64-year member and past president of the Meyersdale Lions Club and was named recipient of the Melvin Jones International Foundation Award. Prior to his retirement in 1978, he was superintendent of the Penn Pocahontas Coal Co. Paul enjoyed being with family and friends, four- wheeling, fishing, hunting, gardening and snowmobiling. He was a member of the High Point Trail Riders Club. Friends will be received 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Price Funeral Home, Meyersdale, where a service will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday. The Rev. James Smelley officiating. Interment in the Reformed Cemetery Meyersdale. Memorials may take the form of contributions to the Amity United Church of Christ, Meyersdale.
