He was employed as a bacteriologist in the chemistry laboratory of the Johnstown hospital, and became a patient in that institution on Saturday, Sept. 8. A native of Meyersdale, "Chuck", as he was familiarly known to his friends, received his early education in the local schools. However, while still a high school student, he removed to Cumberland with his mother and graduated from Allegany High School in that city in 1934. Following his graduation from Pennsylvania State College, he became affiliated with the Johnstown Memorial Hospital. In addition to his mother, Mr. West is survived by an uncle, E. Berkley Meyers, of Somerset, and three aunts, Mrs. Harry Campbell of Confluence, Mrs. Edwin C. Billings of Racine, Wisconsin, and Mrs. Raymond Gerwig, of Baltimore, Md. His father, Roy West, a civil engineer in the employ of the Western Maryland Railroad, was killed in an accident near Fairmont, West Virginia, when the deceased was but an infant. Funeral services were conducted at the Kight Funeral Home in Cumberland this (Thursday) afternoon, followed by interment in the Meyers family plot in Union Cemetery, Meyersdale.
