Whaley, 97, of Confluence RD 1 died Sept. 11, 1998, at Somerset Hospital. Born June 5, 1901, in Lower Turkeyfoot Township, a son of the late Frank and Mary Ellen (McNair) Whaley. Preceded in death by wife, the former Grace Hyatt. Survived by four daughters: Elsie Reckner, Marylou Anderson, Betty Warrick and Meade Beachy, and four sons: John, William, Delmer and Arnold, all of Confluence. Also 21 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by daughter, Dorothy McClintock; one grandson and one great-granddaughter. Member of Confluence Church of the Nazarene, where he served as Sunday School superintendent for a number of years. He also organized the Fair Oaks Church of God, where he also served as superintendent. Friends received at the Humbert Funeral Home, Confluence, today until 1:30 p.m., the hour of service, Rev. James Thompson officiating. Interment, Jersey Cemetery. Family suggests memorial contributions to Confluence Church of the Nazarene or the Chris Metheney Cancer Fund in care of First Philson Bank, Confluence.
