Irving Whalley died Saturday, March 8, at 4 a.m. in North Broward Hospital, Pompano Beach, Fla. Mr. Whalley had suffered a heart attack Friday while vacationing. He was 77. Mr. Whalley served two terms in both the state House and Senate, and seven terms in the U.S. Congress. He was elected to the Senate from the 356th District as a Republican. In 1960 he resigned to seek the congressional office from the 12th District. He won and remained in that office until 1972. He declined to seek re-election after his district was consolidated with that of the late U.S. Rep. John P. Saylor. He is survived by his wife, Ruth E., a former English and journalism teacher at Windber Area High School; a son, John, who heads the BMW Division of Whalley-Ford-BMW in Windber; and a daughter, Ruth, wife of David Kementik, of Windber.
