All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/somerset/ _______________________________________________ WHIPKEY Dwight Rayman Whipkey, 63, of 132 Minteer Rd., Butler, Pa., formerly of Rockwood, died early Monday morning, April 10, 1995, at the Butler Veterans Affairs Medical Center of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, which is also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. He was born May 3, 1931, in Barronvale, Somerset County. Son of Harry E. Whipkey and Melda G. (Rayman) Whipkey Weyand. Graduate of Somerset High School. He had been a self-employed insurance agent for 25 years before retiring in 1994. He was a member of the Center Church of the Brethren in Champion and a member of the Blazing Star Coachman Club, Chapter 28. He served three years in Company C, 110th Infantry Division, U.S. Army, where he attained the rank of sergeant. He also served in the 28th Infantry, Pennsylvania National Guard. Surviving are his wife Martha E. (Pritts) Whipkey, whom he married July 11, 1954; three sons: Kenneth W. Whipkey of Prospect, Keith E. Whipkey of Prospect and Kevin T. Whipkey, at home; a daughter, Kelly L. Whipkey, at home; a sister, Mrs. Lloyd (Ethel) Shaffer of Somerset; a brother, Harry E. Whipkey of Harrisburg; and three grandchildren. Preceded in death by a granddaughter. Friends will be received at the Jay Bryan Funeral Home in Prospect from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday. Viewing also from 1 p.m. until time of service at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Center Church of the Brethren, Champion, the Rev. Jay Shaffer officiating. Burial will be in the Barron Cemetery, Rockwood.
