He was born March 7, 1912 in Listie, Penn. to Clyde and Minnie (Mosholder) Whipperman. In 1921 he moved to Boulder where he graduated from the State Prep School in 1931. Ken joined the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1934 and spent one year in Boulder and six months in Rocky Mountain National Park near the old Phantom Valley Ranch. He moved to Estes Park, and from 1936 to 1938 he managed Johnson's Garage and the Conoco Service Station #1. Kenneth joined the Merchant Marine in 1938 and went to boot training at Catalina Island and served in the South Pacific Theater until the end of the war. He married Dorothy E. Scott on Dec 24, 1947, and built his first home in Far View Acres in Estes Park. He purchased the Conoco Service Station #1 in 1952, and in 1954 changed the name to Ken's Conoco. He sold the station and retired in 1972. Ken was an active member of The Estes Park Rotary Club where he served as the Editarian of the club's Spoke, the club's bulletin and received the award for Outstanding Rotarian in 1996. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Dorothy. He is survived by his sister, Ada Rowe of Longmont; nephews Ken (Mary) Rowe of Loveland, Lloyd (Gail) Rowe of Bellview, Colo., Eddie Ray (Sherry) Barron of Farmington, W. V., and a niece Kathy (Jim) Carmody of Longmont. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 25, at 2 p.m. at the Community Church of the Rockies.
