Born Feb. 21, 1918, in Stonycreek Township, the son of Charles Henry and Mary (Landis) Whipperman. Preceded in death by parents; brothers, Elwood and Leroy Whipperman. Survived by wife, the former Ruth Louise Schrock, to whom he was married 59 years; children, Dr. James P. Whipperman, Evergreen, Colo.; and Mrs. Richard (Donna) Samek, Westtown, N.Y.; grandchildren, Mark, Jon-Michael, and Mary Grace Samek. Also survived by sister, Mrs. Leona Chabol and brother, Telford Whipperman, both of Somerset. A 1934 graduate of Somerset High School. U.S. Army veteran of World War II, worked as a plant supervisor for GTE until his retirement in 1980 with over 40 years of service. Also a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and American Legion Post 181. He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed hunting, baseball, archery and also enjoyed gardening. Our Dad and grandpa will be deeply missed, but forever remembered for his quick wit, story telling, especially of World War II and the love he showed to each of us. His wife will miss him always. Friends received 3:30 to 5:30 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home, Somerset, where a service will be held 1 p.m. Monday. The Rev. Linda J. McElroy officiating.
