Brian Patrick Whitacre, 22, of Camp Lejeune, N.C., formerly of LaVale, Md., died July 27, 1996 at Fairfax Hospital, Fairfax, Va. Born April 13, 1974 in Cumberland, Md., he was the son of Ronald W. and Sharon A. (Mellon) Whitacre. Whitacre was a corporal in the United States Marine Corps as an artillaryman. He was a veteran of the U.S.M.C. from Feb. 16, 1993, to the present time. He was also a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church. Surviving are his wife, Holly Beth Whitacre; maternal grandparents, James and Wanda Mellon, Cumberland; paternal grandparents, Herbert and Marie Whitacre, Cumberland; one brother, Adam Scott Whitacre and wife Renae, Cumberland; one sister Bethany Lynn Whitacre, at home; and one niece, Alyssia Whitacre, Cumberland. Friends received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, Cresaptown, from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Christian Wake services will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Thursday at the St. Mary's Catholic Church, with Rev. Milton Hipsley and Pastor Albert Valentine officiating. Interment, St. Mary's Parish Cemetery.
