Jesse William Whitacre, 93, formerly of Roanoke, Va., died Wednesday, March 15, 1995, at the Goodwill Mennonite Home Grantsville, Md. Born Oct. 9, 1901 in Mineral County, W.Va., son of the late Rev. A.J. and Lacey Ann (Abe) Whitacre. Last surviving member of his immediate family. Rev. Whitacre was a member of Williamson Road Church of the Brethren, Roanoke, Va. Prior to his retirement, he pastored nine congregations in Pa., Indiana, Ohio W.Va. and Maryland. He held numerous evangelistic services. Attended Blue Ridge College, now associated with Bridgewater College. Survivors include his wife, A. Ruth (Beahm) Whitacre, with whom he would have celebrated 70 years of marriage, having been married June 3, 1925; 2 sons: Rev. Charles J. Whitacre, Bedford, Pa.; Rev. Daniel J. Whitacre, Meyersdale; 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, March 24, 1995, at Old Furnace Church of the Brethren, with the Rev. Calvin Roop and the Rev. Ron Beachley officiating. Interment will take place at a later date in Abe Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be directed to the American Bible Society.
