He was formerly of Jennerstown. Born in Brookville, he was a graduate of Dartmouth College, and held a Master of Fine Arts Degree from Yale University. During his career, he served as the chairman of the Speech Department at the University of Pittsburgh, as director of personnel for Rust Engineering Co., and also taught at the Johnstown Campus of the University of Pittsburg. He had served on the board of directors of WQED. A veteran of World War II, he served with the Army as an officer in the South Pacific campaigns. His wife, the late Margaret Wallace Whitehill, died in July of 1987. Surviving are two daughters: Judith W. Robinson of Alexandria, Va., and Lee W. Landes of West Chester; also four grandchildren: Robert Robinson of Atlanta, Ga.; Jeffrey Landes of Havertown, and Kathleen Landes of Phoenixville, Pa. Inurnment in the Columbarium of Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors will take place at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Johnstown Educational Foundation, 149 Biddle Hall, University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown, Johnstown, PA 15904.
