He is preceded in death by his parents and first wife June (Hollenback) Whittaker. He is survived by his wife Marie of Mount Airy, N.C., sister Mabel Whittaker of Berwyn, daughter Pamela Whittaker of Hollidaysburg and sons: William Lawrence "Red", and Warren Charles Whittaker both of Pittsburgh. He served as a Lt. Colonel bombardier during World War II primarily flying B-24's for the 8th Air Force, 2nd Air Division, 392nd bomb group. He was an explosives specialist for Cyanamid Corporation before becoming the safety director for PBS Coal Company during the 70's and 80's. A memorial service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at Deaner Funeral Home, Berlin. Rev. Mark Zimmerman officiating. Interment Berlin IOOF Cemetery.
