Her condition had been critical for weeks and death was due to a complication of diseases. Mrs. Wiley was born at Grantsville October 24, 1859, the daughter of Henry and Sophia Scheuermann Winterberg, former natives of Germany. She was the oldest of a family of twelve children. Grantsville and Bittinger had been her residence during her entire life. She was therefore well known throughout the county and was greatly loved and admired by everyone. She was the widow of Thomas B. Wiley, of Bittinger, who died a number of years ago. When very young she was confirmed as a member of the Grantsville Lutheran Church but following her marriage she transferred her membership to the Lutheran church at Bittinger. She had always taken an active interest in church and civic affairs and her life was one of service to her family and friends until her declining years prevented these activities. Mrs. Wiley was the mother of seven children who survive. They are: Mrs. David Messersmith and Dewey Wiley, Marathon, N.Y., B. Harrison Wiley, Baltimore, Mrs. Edward Buckel and Mrs. Herbert Buckel, Bittinger, Charles Wiley and Thomas Wiley, Canton, O. A step-daughter, Mrs. David Joslyn, Sacramento, Cal., also survives. All of these children visited their mother often during her illness. Mrs. Messersmith has spent the past few weeks at her bedside and Mrs. Joslyn arrived last week. Those who had gone home returned to Grantsville immediately. Mrs. Wiley also leaves two sisters, Miss Christina Winterberg, Grantsville, and Mrs. Rush Montgomery, Waldo, Fla., and three brothers, William Winterberg, Grantsville, Henry Winterberg, Cumberland, and Martin L. Winterberg, Shelton, Conn. Thirty-nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren also survive. Meyersdale Republican, March 20, 1941
