Julia graduated from Katie Gibbs School in Boston and thereafter worked at University of Colorado Medical Center in Denver. She then moved to Winter Park, Colo., where she was an assistant to the Winter Park Ski Hill director for several years. In 1971 she moved to Mill Valley, Calif., and married Robert E.
