All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/somerset/ ________________________________________________ JAMES WILLIAMS Rites for Ohiopyle Soldier, Former Resident of Confluence, Held Tuesday CONFLUENCE, Oct. 11 - Funeral services for Staff Sergeant James Williams, 19- year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. James Williams, Sr., Ohiopyle, former residents of Confluence, were conducted Tuesday afternoon by Rev. Jacob Kooser, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal Church of that Community. Burial was held in the Jersey Cemetery. Sgt. Williams died of wounds suffered in France in July. He had received hospitalization in a base hospital in England. On his return trip home the well known Ohiopyle youth died. His body was shipped to Ohiopyle from Charleston, South Carolina, with a military escort. He attended the Ohiopyle High School but entered the service prior to his graduation. He received his basic training at Camp Blanding, Florida, and Camp Atterbury, Indiana. The Connellsville American Legion held a ritual at the grave. Pallbearers were John Jackson, Herbert and Ray Kurtz, Sturgis Wallace, Harry Johnson and Webster Holt. He is survived by his parents, five sisters, Betty, Doris, Garland and Arlene; four brothers, Clyde, William, Lewis and George, and his great-grandmother, Mrs. Sarah Miller, of Lake Lynn.
