He was born Oct. 7, 1916, in Oakdale, Wales, U.K., but was raised in Glassport, where he graduated from Glassport Grammar School and Glassport High School. He is preceded in death by his father, Richard David Williams; mother, Janet (Bevans) Williams; wife of 67 years, Erma (Beattie) Williams; and eight siblings. Survived by a daughter, Jeanne W. Case and husband, Gordon, Los Gatos, Calif.; son, Richard D. Williams II and wife, Donna, Houston; grandchildren, Gordon T. Case Jr. and wife, Claudia; David E. Case and wife, Kanai; Richard D. Williams III; and Jennifer Williams; great-grandchildren, Daniel, Nicole, Leia and Kiana Case. Also survived by Elaine Tursi Williams, the mother of Richard D. Williams III and Jennifer Williams; and a sister, Janet Basch, Clairton. Richard was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He served From 1941 to 1945 and attained the rank of tech sergeant. After his discharge in 1945 he worked in New York City as a packaging designer and ultimately opened his own graphic arts and advertising business in New Rochelle, N.Y. He retired in 1979. He was an accomplished singer and a fine artist. While living in Glassport he sang with a local Welsh men's choir directed by his uncle. They gave recitals in churches and halls throughout western Pennsylvania and Eastern Ohio. He was a Member of the Elks and the American Legion. Richard loved his family and all his friends. He had a story or a song for all he met. He will be missed by all that had the privilege to have known him. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, at the Humbert Funeral Home, Confluence, where a service will follow immediately at 4 p.m. The Rev. Linda Dinger officiating.
