At her bedside when she passed away were nearly all of her children who had spent most of their time with her since she returned from the Presbyterian Hospital, New York City, several weeks ago, after a difficult operation which failed to restore her health. She had suffered much during the past year from an abnormal enlargement of the aorta. A daughter of Frederick and Lydia (Boyer) Hasselroth, she was born in Somerset County of which she was a resident her entire life. She would have been 80 years old Oct. 30th, had her life been spared a few weeks longer. In her young womanhood, she became the wife of Henry J. Wilmoth, a young lumberman of Southampton Township at the beginning of his eminently successful business career. She was a capable and devoted wife and mother and during the early years of their marriage she was of great help to her husband in building up his extensive lumbering operation. About the turn of the century, Mr. and Mrs. Wilmoth located in Meyersdale where she had lived ever since. Mr. Wilmoth died in 1913, but not before he had built "Hillcrest," the largest and most valuable residence property in Meyersdale, which has been the Wilmoth family home ever since 1904. Before his death, Mr. Wilmoth acquired the Meyersdale electric light and power plant and also the light and power plants in Garrett, Boynton and Wellersburg, which he enlarged and improved. After her husband's death, Mrs. Wilmoth, with the aid of her son, the late Fred W. Wilmoth, continued to conduct and operate his various industrial plants and business interests. Before her son Fred's accidental death, the Wilmoth light and power plants were sold to the Associated Gas and Electric Company and some of the other Wilmoth interests were liquidated and discontinued, so that Mrs. Wilmoth had fewer business cares to look after in her declining years. Mrs. Wilmoth was a friendly neighborly woman, prominent in local social circles and carried on many private charities, and will be missed by many friends. She was a long-time member and supporter of the Amith Reformed Church and took an active interest in its various activities. She is survived by the following children: Barney B. Wilmoth, Glen Campbell; Mrs. C. C. Cook, Meyersdale; Mrs. R. K. Quillman, Norristown; Mrs. Harry Baldwin, Meyersdale; Miss Mary Wilmoth, at home, and Miss Gretchen Wilmoth of Washington, D.C. Two sons, Alfred and Frederick, preceded her in death. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, and by two sisters, Mrs. Ida B. Sturtz, Akron, O.; and Mrs. W. O. Houck, Kingwood, W.Va. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Wilmoth residence, with Rev. Nelson C. Brown, pastor of Amity Reformed Church, officiating. Burial in Union Cemetery, under the direction of W. C. Price and Son, Morticians. Meyersdale Republican, October 12, 1944
