Wilson, 99, passed away April 8, 2007. Born Dec. 16, 1907, a daughter of Charles and Nelle Hunter. She is predeceased by her parents; her husband of 65 years, Herbert M. Wilson; a brother, John Hunter; and son-in-law, Jack Barmoy. Mrs. Wilson is survived by her daughter, Sara "Sally" Barmoy; grandchildren, Jackie Barmoy and husband, Mike Knauss, Sitka, Alaska; Herbert Barmoy and wife, Christine, LaVale, Md.; Debra Burdette, LaVale; and Juli Barmoy, Juneau, Alaska; great-grandchildren, John and Christian Barmoy, and Sarah and Orin Burdette; a brother, Joe Hunter, Niagara Falls, N.Y.; niece, Nancy Smith, Suffield, Conn.; and nephew, Charles "Chuck" Hunter, Clay, N.Y. She was a member of the LaVale United Methodist Church. Ruth, or Nanny, as she was known to many, was a woman ahead of her time. She graduated high school at the age of 16 and attended Indiana State Teachers College in Indiana, Pa., where she was certified to teach elementary school. She taught in Johnstown, where she met her husband, Herb. Once married, she was compelled by the law of the day to quit teaching. Ruth and Herb had many endeavors in their lifetime. Herb owned the Lincoln Mercury Dealership in Cumberland in the early '50s. After retirement, they moved back to Shanksville. They hunted and fished together for many years in Potter County, Shanksville and Sebastian, Fla., where they spent winters. Ruth was an expert shot and fly fisher-woman and brought home many meals of wild game and fish. She was quite competitive with her husband when it came to hunting and passed on her skills to her grandchildren. Many Sundays were spent with Nanny and Gramps at Stoneycreek Lake enjoying delicious home-cooked meals, swimming and boating. A special thank you goes to her special friends, Donna Perkins and Phyllis Diubaldo who were so kind to her in her final years and became a part of her extended family. Also thanks to Dr. Greg Donaldson for his wonderful care of Ruth in her last 16 years. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Friday at the Hafer Funeral Service, PA, 1302 National Highway, LaVale, Md., with a funeral service at 2 p.m. Bernadette Ross, pastor, officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the LaVale Methodist Church Scholarship Fund, 565 National Highway, LaVale, MD 21502 or the LaVale Library, 815 National Highway, LaVale, MD 21502.
