"Pap" Jr. 03/17/05 The New Republic May 9, 1921 - March 17, 2005 George W. "Pap" Winters, Jr., 83, of Salisbury, died Thursday, March 17, 2005, at Select Specialty Hospital, Johnstown. Born May 9, 1921, in West Virginia, he was the son of the late George W. Sr. and Ella (Brown) Winters. Surviving is his wife Martha L. (Durst); three sons: Robert Winters, Somerset; Keith Winters, Marietta, Ga.; Gary Durst, Reedsville, N.C.; three sisters: Esther Fike, Meyersdale; Dorothy Mimna, Conowingo, Md.; Mardelle Fletcher, Winchester, Va.; seven grandchildren: Julia, Stephanie, Joshua, Justin, Debbie, Corey, and Kelli. Mr. Winters was a member of the Salisbury American Legion, Salisbury Boro Chief of Police for 26 years, Pennsylvania Sheriffs Association, Salisbury fireman, and a member of the Meyersdale Church of the Brethren. Friends were received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday at Newman Funeral Home, Inc., Salisbury. Services were conducted at 11 a.m. at the funeral on Monday with Rev. Daniel Whitacre officiating. Interment was in the Salisbury Cemetery. Military graveside rites was accorded by the Salisbury American Legion. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.newmanfuneralhomes.com.
