Winters Sr., 77, Stoystown RD 1 (Jenner Crossroads), died April 10, 1983, at Mercy Hospital, Johnstown. Born Sept. 12, 1905, in Jenner Township, Somerset County, son of George and Ada (Whistler) Winters. Preceded in death by parents, wife, the former Mary Ellen Glessner, died Jan. 31, 1974, two brothers, Harry and Carle; sister, Florence Zimmerman. Survived by these children: John A. Jr., married to former Gloria Begley, Boswell RD 1; George Robert, married to former Betty Williams, Rector; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild. Brother of Mrs. Alta Rhodes, Rolling Pines Nursing Home, Ligonier. Long-time member Hopewell United Methodist Church, past Sunday School superintendent and past chairman of Official Board of Church. Charter member and treasurer of Jenner Community Sportsmen Club, also a member of Jennerstown Vol. Fire Dept. Retired industrial arts teacher from former Forbes High School, Kantner. Began teaching career in the one-room Mountain School, Jenner Township. Friends received from 7-9 p.m. Monday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Hoffman Funeral Home, 227 Allegheny St., Boswell, also from 10 a.m. Wednesday until time of service at 11 a.m. at Hopewell Church, the Rev. Walter M. Willey. No viewing at church. Interment, Jenner Crossroads Cemetery. Donations to Mercy Hospital Kidney Dialysis Unit will be appreciated. Fire company memorial service at 7 p.m. Monday.
