Born Feb. 20, 1917 in Boswell, the son of Marian Schmucker Winters of Somerset and the late Melvin Winters Sr. Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife, Katherine Sechler Winters; two daughters, Linda, wife of Benjamin Stith of Dallas, Texas and Kerin, wife of Greg Frantz of Somerset; two sons, Bradwin of Somerset RD 5 and Patrick, at home; one grandson, Christopher Winters; two sisters, Mrs. Steve Gaydos of Somerset, and Mrs. Edward Brougher of Jennerstown. He was a member of the United Church of Christ, Mt. Tabor, Stoystown Charge, where he served as president of the Joint Consistory. Member of Somerset Lodge F. and A.M. 358, Pittsburgh Consistory, 32nd Degree; Meyersdale Elks; and the American Legion, Somerset Post 181. He was a veteran of World War II and a retired employe [sic] of the General State Authority. Friends will be received after 2 p.m. Saturday at the Robert H. Halverson Funeral Home, where services will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Wayne Sautter and the Rev. Richard H. Shellenberger officiating. Interment, Somerset County Memorial Park.
