Witt died shortly before noon Thursday at his home in Jennertown, Somerset County, following an illness that became critical Monday when he was stricken with paralysis dying without regaining conscious. Mr. Witt was one of the oldest and best known residents of the Jennertown district, having spent practically all his life there. He was a veteran of the Civil War, having enlisted in the 54th Regiment and serving three years. Mr. Witt was married first to Miss Mary Brubaker and then to Miss Mary Bell, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hiram Bell. His second wife and the following children survive: Mrs. William Repp of Johnstown; Mrs. Bertha Bell and Mrs. S. H. Scott, both of Morrellville; Mr. A. C. Dyer, of Sewickley; Robert F. Witt of Johnstown; the Rev. E. Talmage Witt of Hammond, Ind. Joseph Wit of Ralphton; James Witt somewhere in Ohio, Mrs. Carion [?] Cook, of Jennertown. Mr. Witt was a member of Reuben Ferner Post, G. A. R. of Stoyestown, and of the Evangelical Church. His funeral took place on Saturday, with services in the Jenner Cross Roads United Brethren church and interment in the cemetery there.
