All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/somerset/ ________________________________________________ LESTER WITT Wellersburg Boy Fatally Injured Lester Witt, six-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Witt of Wellersburg, died at 5 o'clock Wednesday morning in Allegany Hospital, Cumberland, Md., the result of injuries suffered on Sunday night when he was struck by an automobile on Route 808 near the Witt home in Wellersburg. The child suffered a compound fracture of the skull and fractures of an arm and leg. The car that struck the boy was operated by William Smith, 19, of Wellersburg. Smith stopped the car and took the injured boy to the hospital. Police said they were informed that the boy was running after a truck on the highway and that he suddenly darted across the road from behind the truck and into the path of the automobile. Smith is the brother of Earl Eugene Smith, Jr., ten-year-old Wellersburg boy, who died in Allegany Hospital March 9 from injuries suffered March 7 when he was struck by a truck while sledding near his home.
