Witt, 64, of Confluence, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 6, 1998. He was born Feb. 2, 1934 in Connellsville. He graduated from Connellsville High School in 1952. Following Army service as a sergeant, he graduated from Grove City College in Grove City in 1959. He pastured several churches in Venango County including Barkeyville, Hebron, Mt. Carmel, and Oak Hill. He then pastored Churches of God in Markleysburg, Sand Springs, Md., Keeler Glade, Md., Fair Oaks, Ursina and Fort Hill. He was founder and pastor of Bethel Park Christian Center, with an extensive youth ministry. He was also founder and director of Camp Wildwood in Markleysburg. He started the first Boy Scout Troop in Markleysburg, and was a Scout master for many years. He was the spiritual leader to many youths who are now adults in this area and was instrumental in leading many to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. He was a teacher at Turkeyfoot Valley Elementary School in Harnedsville. He sponsored release-time religious education for the public school. He had been a statewide evaluator for Laurel Highlands Home Educators for the past 15 years. He was dearly loved by his wife Elva J. Witt, of 41 years; brothers and sisters: Dorothy Reagan of Connellsviile; Ralph and Helen Witt of Connellsville, Elsley K. and Margaret Witt of Connellsville, Candis and Ralph Snyder of Connellsville, Sara Witt of Columbus, Ohio, C. Graydon and Wanda Witt of McKeesport, Melvin and Faye Witt of Connellsville. His first daughter, Carla and David Showman of Tulsa, Okla., and grandchildren, Joshua, Jillian, Jihrleah, Johanna, Jessica, Jordana, Jonathan and Josiah Showman. His second daughter, Suzi and Bruce Tifft of Atlanta, Ga., and grandchildren, Aaron, Kaitlin, Nathan and Reagan Tifft. His first son Torrey and Amy Witt of Markleysburg and grandsons, Alan and Torrey Witt. His third daughter E. Alicia and Carl Siegfried of Duck, N.C., and grandson. His second son Stephen Witt of Virginia Beach, Va., and his third son, Christopher Witt of Harnedsville. He was also an uncle and great-uncle of a family of close to 150 cousins, nieces and nephews. He was the spiritual leader and ordaining minister for five young men in the community: Mark Witt of Connellsville, Barry Witt of Connellsville, Geary Witt of Connellsville, Clifford Sarver of Columbus, Ohio and David Showman of Tulsa, Okla., and one of his closest friends and deacons, Daniel Sarver of Markleysburg. He is joined in Heaven with his son, John Mark Witt, his parents Ralph Clark Witt Sr. and Rella Schlichter Witt, his brothers Dale V. Witt and John F. Reagan. Friends will be received at New Life Covenant Church, Route 40, Markleysburg, next to A. J. McMullen Middle School on Friday, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., and Saturday, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be Monday at 2 p.m. at New Life Covenant Church with Pastor Lgene Bonnell officiating. Interment will be at Green Ridge Cemetery, Route 119 north of Connellsville. All friends are welcome. Arrangements are under the direction of the Donald R. Crawford Funeral Home, Markleysburg.
