WITTE Joseph Thomas Witte, 71, died Saturday, Sept. 12, 1987 at his home. Born in Mount Savage, Md., May 9, 1916, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Julian Witte. A retired pipefitter for Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 489 for 36 years, he was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and Old Rail Post 6025, VFW, Mount Savage, and Local 489. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Surviving are his widow, Gladys E. (Sturtz) Witte; two sons, Charles J. Witte, Carrolton, Ohio; and Richard A. Witte, Meyersdale; one daughter, Mrs. Geraldine Offutt, Cumberland, Md.; two sisters Mrs. Gertrude Robertson, Accident, Md.; and Mrs. Cecelia Shumaker, Baltimore, Md.; six grandchildren an one great-grandchild. Mass of Christian burial was celebrated in St. Patrick's Catholic Church Monday at 11 a.m. by the Rev. John J. Mackey. Interment, Rest Lawn Memorial Park. Scarpelli Funeral Home, Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, was in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were Charles S. Offutt, Daniel J. Offutt, Christopher A. Offutt, John R. Kirby, David A. Kirby, Christopher P. Light and Charles J. Witte. Honorary pallbearers were Charles Cross, James Korns, Gary Umstot, Harold Painter, Carl Neder and Arthur Neder.
