He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Ann Gnagey Wockenfuss; brother, Milton of Missouri; sister, Doris Hofmeister of Baltimore, Md.; daughter, Lynn Brace of Friedens, and two grandchildren. He worked in industry, taught in public schools, as well as at the University of Maryland, served as consultant, and had authored various articles and books. Dr. Wockenfuss was a professor of mechanical engineering, an assistant provost of the mathematical, physical sciences and engineering division and an associate dean of engineering at the University of Maryland at College Park. As a member of the American Society for Engineering Education for many years, Dr. Wockenfuss had served on various committees, both nationally and regionally. He was president of the Maryland Chapter of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, and a member of various other academic honor societies. As a staff sergeant and World War II veteran, he served in the Air Force and the Pacific Theatre. Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Price Funeral Home, Meyersdale, where service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, with the Rev. Raymond L. Brown officiating. Interment, St. Paul Wilhelm Cemetery, Meyersdale RD 1. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Wilhelm United Church of Christ, Meyersdale RD 1 and/or Alzheimers Disease Research, Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, 1620 McElderry St., Baltimore, Md. 21287.
