(Andrew) Wojcik, 80, of Central City, died Aug. 25, 2000 at Windber Medical Center. Born July 13, 1920 in Portage, son of Andrew and Mary (Kudasik) Wojcik. Preceded in death by parents and sister Louise Low. Survived by wife of 55 years, the former Frona Feight; children: John, married to the former Mary Ellen Koban, Central City, Walter Sr., married to the former Sandra Petryszak, Cairnbrook, Andrea, wife of Nick Elko, Odenton, Md., and Michael Esq., married to the former Traci Yonko, Pittsburgh; and grandchildren: Walter Jr. Esq., Jason, John, Megan, Nicholas (Elko), Chloe, and Michael. Brother of Walter (Whitey) and wife Kay and Marion Wojcik, both of Central City. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. As a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps, Henry assisted in the construction of the famed Skyline Drive in the Shenandoah mountains of Va. He was an army veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theatre. A retired coal miner of local 1680, he recently received his 60 year membership pin from the UMWA. During the industry's down times Henry often worked on road construction crews building the turnpike's Allegheny tunnel among others. More recently he enjoyed gardening, reading, watching the Pirates and Steelers, and gatherings with family. Henry was a life-long member of Sacred Heart Church (now our Lady Queen of Angels) in Central City where he and Frona were united in marriage in 1945 by the late Rev. Fr. Ignatius Pilz. Friends were received Sunday at the Mulcahy Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at Our Lady Queen of Angels Church. Fr. Charles Bodziak celebrant. Committal Sacred Heart Cemetery. Graveside Military rites by Central City VFW and American Legion Posts. In lieu of flowers the family asks contributions be made to the Somerset Chapter of the American Cancer Society or the Shade-Central City Historical Society Inc. in Henry's memory.
