Woy, aged 72, prominent lumberman and farmer of Somerset, passed away at his home at 11:30 Sunday morning. Death was attributed to a complication of diseases. Failing health caused his retirement from active business four years ago, but only recently has he been confined to his home. Mr. Woy was born October 7, 1868, the second son of Josiah and Sara Frank Woy and was a member of a family long identified with the development of Somerset County. In his early years he was associated with his father in the lumber business following which he established his own farming and lumbering interests. December 23, 1890, he was united in marriage with Mary M. Zinn of Meyersdale, who survives him with the following daughters: Mrs. Marian Snyder of Reel's Corner; Mrs. Magdalene Fluck of Los Angeles, California; Mrs. Florence Bittner and Mrs. Frances E. Trent of Somerset; also four grandsons and one granddaughter. He was a brother of John H. Woy of Somerset; Mrs. C. E. Walker of Johnstown; Mrs. M. W. Saylor and Mrs. C. E. Weimer of Somerset. One brother, Wilson T. Woy, preceded him in death. In addition to his active business life, Mr. Woy was prominent in the affairs of Trinity Lutheran Church of which he was a life-long member, and served for many years as a deacon. He was also identified with the Modern Woodmen and I.O.O.F. lodges. Funeral services were conducted at the late residence on Centerville Road Tuesday afternoon at 3:00 by his pastor, the Rev. Dr. I. Hess Wagner. Interment in the Husband Cemetery was directed by Walter S. Hoffman, mortician. Meyersdale Republican, August 1, 1940
