Yoder, a native of Somerset County, Pa., who was born and reared in Elk Lick Township, near Salisbury, but during the last 48 years of his life was a resident of Carleton, Nebraska, died in the Lutheran Hospital, at York, Nebraska, March 11, 1940, at the age of 77 years, 7 months and 28 days. His death occurred soon after an appendicitis operation, which was performed after a week's illness. He was the youngest son of the late Henry and Gertrude (Hostetler) Yoder, and grew to manhood in the neighborhood where he was born and reared, and still has many relatives and friends in the Elk Lick-Salisbury locality, as well as in Garrett County, Md., adjoining. Mr. Yoder was naturally intelligent, and made the best of such educational advantages as he had during his youth. He was born of Amish Mennonite parents, but early in life he became a member of the Church of the Brethren, and remained true and faithful to its tenets to the end of his life. He was united in marriage September 19, 1889, to Maderia Miller of Waterloo, Iowa. Two years later they moved to Carleton, Nebraska. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary September 19, 1939. Mr. Yoder was a man of sterling Christian character. As a Sunday School teacher and deacon he served his church at Bethel. He had keen business judgement, and was always interested and well informed on current affairs. Surviving are his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Wilma Henderson of Rocky Ford, Colo., one son, Jacob Yoder, of Auburn, Nebr., three grandchildren, and two sisters and one brother preceded him in death. At whatever he engaged he could always be depended on "to do and to be the best that was in him to do and to be." During his early life he taught eight terms of school, some in his native state, and some in Iowa. Later he located at Carleton, Nebraska, and from its obituary concerning him in the Carleton Enterprise, the next three paragraphs are quoted: The two sisters surviving him are Mrs. Lydia Rodamer of Grantsville, Md., and Mrs. Matilda Sanger of Modesto, California, who formerly was the second wife of the late Abraham P. Beachy, of Salisbury. Mr. Yoder's funeral was held at the Bethel Church of the Brethren, near Carleton, and was largely attended, as he was held in high esteem by all who knew him, and was a very successful farmer and land owner, during the most of his life.
