Yoder, Stuarts Draft, Va., passed away suddenly at her home, on April 30, 1949, from a heart attack, at the age of 82 years. She had been in delicate health for a number of years. She was born in Garrett County, Maryland, April 28, 1876, the daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth (Hershberger) Swartzentruber. She is survived by her husband, two brothers, Daniel of Oakland, Md., Noah of Montgomery, Ind., one sister, Mrs. Abe Yoder of Arthur, Ill., and a large number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by six brothers and two sisters. On Dec. 5, 1886, she was married near Meyersdale, Pa., to Noah E. Yoder, son of Elias A. Yoder and Elizabeth Brenneman Yoder. They lived many years on the farm now owned and operated by Galen Peck near Meyersdale, where they were the most prosperous farmers and were known and esteemed for their sincere friendliness and hospitality and Christian lives. From Meyersdale they moved with others of their faith to near Norfolk, Va., where they were pioneers to the Amish Mennonite settlement there. After many years and while living semi-retired lives, they moved, about six years ago, to a new home near Stuarts Draft, Va. The Yoders have many friends among many classes of people. Not only counting them among those of their own faith, but among people of every walk of life, to whom they extended friendliness and hospitality. Mrs. Yoder will be greatly missed in her home, in the church and community and by the many who have known the hospitality of her home. Funeral services were held at the Amish Mennonite church house near Stuarts Draft on May 3, and were conducted by the ministers Lewis Beachy and Daniel Petersheim of Oakland, Md., and Eli Beachy of Arthur, Ill. A large number of people attended, including many relatives and friends, from Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware and several regions of Virginia, especially their former home community near Norfolk. Miss Salome Kinsinger, a niece of Mr. Yoder who has been as one of the family for years, will continue as housekeeper for Mr. Yoder who is over 86 years old. Meyersdale Republican, May 12, 1949
