Yoder, 71, of Meyersdale, went home to be with Jesus, Jan. 3, 1997. He died at the Meyersdale Manor where he was a short-term resident. Born Jan. 25, 1925, in Meyersdale, he was a son of the late Marano J. and Mary (Tice) Yoder. He faithfully attended the Meyersdale Grace Brethren Church. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Lela (Schrock) Yoder. He is the beloved father of Miriam Arlene, wife of Leonard Sacco, Hyndman; Elsie, wife of Robert Beachy, Hyndman; Virginia, wife of Pete Mueller, Swanton, Md.; and James, husband of Nancy (Yoder), Grantsville, Md. Also surviving are five grandchildren: Rachel and Londa Beachy, Hyndman; Christine, wife of Stephen Jenkins, LaVale, Md.; Jimmy and Amanda Yoder, Grantsville, Md.; one step-great granddaughter, Jessica Jenkins. In addition, he is survived by one sister, Lydia Yoder of Grantsville, Md. Simon was preceded in death by four sisters: Fannie, Bertha, Annie and Sarah; and one brother, Samuel. Simon was a true servant of the people of Meyersdale and the surrounding communities. He was called to serve and fulfilled his calling faithfully to the end of his life as a fireman and member of the ambulance association. As a 41-year member of the Meyersdale Volunteer Fire Department, 21 years of which he served as chief or assistant chief, he answered 2,143 calls. He served in the capacity of Fire Police. He was also a founder and lifetime member of the Meyersdale Ambulance Association where he served actively fur 23 years. In addition, he was involved [with the] Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Leckemby Funeral Home. Meyersdale. The funeral service will be held at the Meyersdale Grace Brethren Church at 2 p.m. Sunday. The body will be at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Mt. View Christian Fellowship church cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Meyersdale Volunteer Fire Department or any charitable organization of the donor's choice. Daily American, January 4, 1997
