Mr. Yommer had not been well for about three years and during the past six months he had been rapidly growing worse. However, he was able to be up and about his home most of the time until last Monday when his condition became critical. While his death was not entirely unexpected, nevertheless, it came as a shock to his family and many friends in this and the Jennings communities. Mr. Yommer had reached the age of 66 years, 7 months and 5 days. He was born on the William Stanton farm, about three miles south of Grantsville, Aug. 6, 1874, a son of George and Elizabeth Witzgall Yommer. His parents were natives of Germany. Having lived in this section practically all his life he had a wide acquaintance and was numbered among the most reputable citizens of his community. He united with the Grantsville Lutheran Church at the age of fifteen, but later transferred this membership to the Lutheran church at Jennings. Until ill health prevented he took an active interest in the affairs of his community and church. He was a charter member of the Grantsville Camp No. 41 Woodmen of the World. In November, 1902, Mr. Yommer married Miss Ida Bittinger and for the past twenty-two years they have resided at their present home, situated on the Grantsville-Jennings Road, about half way between these two points. They were the parents of three children, one of whom, a daughter, died in infancy. Mr. Yommer leaves his widow, one daughter, Mrs. Harry Hoover, Jennnings, one son, Harry L. Yommer, Grantsville, two sisters, Mrs. Barbara Hare, Donora, Pa., and Mrs. Sadie Meyers, Jennings, three brothers, John Yommer, Crist Yommer and Daniel Yommer, all of Jennings, and four grandchildren. Funeral rites were held Friday morning from the Grantsville Lutheran Church. Rev. A. C. Curran, pastor of the Jennings church, officiated, and was assisted by Rev. Samuel D. Sigler, local pastor. A choral group from the Maple Glen Amish Church and the Springs Mennonite Church, under the direction of Rev. Milton B. Miller, sang several of Mr. Yommer's favorite hymns. They were unaccompanied. Mrs. W. Harold Miller, church organist, played for the services. Interment was in the Grantsville cemetery under the supervision of William Winterberg, local mortician. Active pallbearers, all of whom were members of the local Woodman camp, were Charles O. Bender, Charles O. Keller, Harry C. Edwards, Hobart Speicher, Leonard B. Schaefer and Scott Duckworth. Honorary pallbearers were Daniel W. Dorsey, Albert Swauger, Harvey Croft, Otha Fike, C. O. White and Orville Stark, members of the older group of Woodmen. John Beachy, Wayne Durst, Harold Resh, Eldred Stahl, Charles Stahl and Charles Stanton, representing the group of younger members. In addition, fifteen other members of the Lodge attended the services in a body.
