Young, aged 65, former resident of Meyersdale and Somerset, died April 11 at his home in Scranton. He had been in poor health since undergoing a major operation about three years ago. He moved from Somerset four years ago to Scranton. During his residence in Somerset, he was employed as a chemist for the Consolidation Coal Company, and for many years prior to moving to Somerset he was similarly employed at Meyersdale. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Edith (Husband) Wayland; two children, George and Elizabeth, both at home, and a brother, Charles Young, of Johnstown. During their residence in Meyersdale and Somerset, both Mr. and Mrs. Young were leaders in local musical circles. Mrs. Young was discharged from a Scranton Hospital this week, after being a patient there for several weeks. The body was shipped to Somerset for burial in the Husband Cemetery. Funeral services were conducted in the Landis mortuary in Somerset at 2:30 o'clock, Wednesday, by Rev. George L. Roth, pastor of St. Paul's Reformed Church. The Masonic order of Somerset was in charge of the services at the grave. Mr. Young, besides being a proficient chemist and accomplished musician, was a keen student of science and literature and an amateur astronomer of more than ordinary ability. Somerset County has had few, if any, more cultured and refined residents than Mr. and Mrs. Wayland P. Young. News of his death was received with profound sorrow by his many friends in this county.
