Born June 27, 1926, in Scottdale, a daughter of Lawrence Mason and Doris Marie (Schultz) Burkhart. Preceded in death by parents, and husband, Herman S. "Sam" Younkin, who died Dec. 5, 1985; brothers, James and Ronald Burkhart; sister, Audrey Herrington; and a grandson. Survived by children, Lawrence "Larry" S., married to the former Linda Moyer, Somerset; Peggy S. Younkin, Johnstown; Mrs. Lenny (Vickie) Friedline, Sipesville; Mrs. Joseph (Joyce) Stern, Somerset; Rick Younkin, married to the former Suzy Will, Somerset; Bruce A. Younkin, married to the former Barbara Fisher, Delaware, Ohio; Lester Younkin, married to the former Brenda Botteicher, Somerset; Debra L. Younkin-Harris, Mesa, Ariz; Mary E. Younkin, Somerset; 16 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A sister of Karl Burkhart and wife, Mary, Dawson; William Burkhart and wife, Joann, Scottdale; Marjorie Herrington, Scottdale; Mrs. Ron (Patricia) Baird, Middle Ridge, Ohio; sisters-in-law, Adeline Burkhart, Scottdale; and Dorothy "Dot" Younkin, Scottdale. Dorothy was a 1944 graduate of East Huntingdon High School. She worked as a notary public. She was the charter president, secretary and member of Stoystown Lioness Club and she received the Melvin Jones Award. She served on the Talus Rock Girl Scout Council and also served with the Tam O'Shanters Boosters. She was a member of the Gad Abouts and was also a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, where she served on the board of trustees. The Stoystown Lioness Club will hold a service at 7 p.m Monday at the funeral home. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Hauger- Zeigler Funeral Home, Somerset, where a service will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday at Calvary United Methodist Church, Somerset. The Rev. Raymond E. Lyon officiating. Interment, Somerset County Memorial Park.
