Younkin, 77, of Berlin, formerly of Ligonier died Dec. 7, 2003 in Meadow View Nursing Center, Berlin. He was born July 29, 1926 in Acosta, a son of the late Jesse R. and Irene Phillippi Younkin. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy (Compton) Younkin in 1986. He is survived by two daughters, Betty Jane Johnson of Bolivar and Sally Wysocki of Jeannette; two sons, Gregory Younkin of West Palm Beach. Fla. and S/Sgt. Jesse Younkin serving our country in Korea; a stepdaughter, Debbie Eddington of Salt Lake City, Utah; a stepson, Merle Leach of Lusby, Md.; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Velma Muir of Ligonier, and two brothers, Dale Younkin of Berlin and Arden Younkin of Houston, Texas. Jerry had owned and operated the former Younkin Sunoco Station in Ligonier and retired from the Pa. Bureau of Forestry. He attended the Berlin Alliance Church. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Ligonier American Legion 267. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the J. Paul McCracken Funeral Chapel Inc., 144 East Main St., Ligonier, where a funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday with the Rev. Benton R. McKee officiating. Interment will follow in Ligonier Valley Cemetery. The family suggest any memorial contributions be sent to your local chapter of the Alzheimer's Association. Daily American, December 12, 2003
