"Sam" Younkin, 64, of East Main Street, Somerset, died Dec. 5, 1985, at Mercy Hospital, Johnstown. Born May 24, 1921, in Owendale, Pa., son of the late Herman and Audith (Keller) Younkin. Also preceded in death by a brother, Irvin and a grandson. Survived by his wife, the former Dorothy Jean Burkhart and these children: Larry S. and Rick, both of Somerset RD 5; Peggy, Johnstown; Mrs. Lenny (Vicki) Friedline, Sipesville; Mrs. Joe (Joyce) Stern, Somerset RD 4; Bruce A.. Delaware, Ohio; Debra L. and Mary E., at home; also, eight grandchildren. A brother of James W., Connellsville; and Mrs. George (Eleanor) Fretts, Scottdale RD 1. Member of Calvary United Methodist Church; Stoystown Lions Club, (past president and secretary); Stoystown American Legion; Meyersdale Elks No. 1951; FOE, Somerset; District 14M Lioness chairman; past Somerset Borough councilman; retired agent of United Insurance Company of America; owner and operator of a bookkeeping and tax service; and veteran of World War II. Friends received 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday and from 9-11 a.m. Sunday at the Richard E. Hauger Funeral Home. Funeral service at 2 p.m. Sunday at Calvary United Methodist Church with the Rev. Harry Sherry officiating. Interment, Somerset County Memorial Park. Body will lie in state at the church from 1 p.m. Sunday until time of service. No viewing at the church.
