"Hick" Younkin, 71, of Somerset, formerly of Kingwood, died Aug. 6, 1986, at home. Born Nov. 27, 1914, in Middlecreek Township, a son of the late John H. and Alice (Burroughs) Younkin. Preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy M. (Rush) Younkin; six brothers and a sister. Survived by four sons: Chester of Ellicott City, Md.; Barry of Somerset; Michael of Pittsburgh; and Brian of Markleton; five grandchildren; two sisters, Agnes Frank of DeLand, Fla.; Irma Brant of Somerset; and a brother, Orville of Friedens. He was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church of New Centerville and the Ursina American Legion. A veteran of World War II. He retired after 37 years from the General Refractories Company of Fort Hill. Friends will be received from 7-9 p.m. Thursday and from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Humbert Funeral Home, Confluence. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. from the Messiah Lutheran Church in New Centerville with Vicar Donald L. Knowles officiating. Interment, Somerset County Memorial Park. There will be no viewing at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to UPBEAT, (heart research) West Penn Hospital, 4815 Liberty Ave., Pittsburgh, 15224.
