Scott was born Feb. 11, 1920, in Ursina, a son of the late Fredrick and Mary E. Layfield Younkin Sr. Preceded in death by his parents, his wife Cleda Rose Prince Younkin, three brothers Lloyd F. "Punk" Younkin, Blair E. "Jake" Younkin, and Harold Younkin, two sisters Clema N. Stevenson and Virginia Prince. Survived by a daughter Molly Jo Younkin, a grandson Zachary J. Raymond and a son-in-law Patrick Raymond and five nieces and four nephews. Scott was the last surviving member of the Fred and Mary Younkin family. Scott was a graduate of the Confluence High School with the class of 1938. He attended the former Franklin Business College in Connellsville and Penn State Extension College in Somerset, and also attended California University of Pa. Scott was a veteran of World War II in the 84th Infantry Division, in the European Theatre of Operations. He became Sergeant Major of the Personnel Office of the 333rd Regiment. Scott was a prisoner of war for eight days and received the bronze star. Prior to his retirement in 1972 Scott worked as a commercial sales representative for the Columbia Gas Co. for over 20 years. Scott was a life member of the Ursina American Legion 946 and the Confluence VFW 7250. He was also a member of the King Solomon's Lodge 346 F&AM in Connellsville. Scott was a member of the United Community Church of God in Ursina and formerly attended the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Connellsville. Family and friends will be received in the Brooks Funeral Home Inc., 111 E. Green St., Connellsville, Fri. from 7 to 9 p.m. Additional viewing will be held Sat. from 11 a.m. until noon in the United Community Church of God, Ursina. The Rev. Paul Tobias officiating. A committal service and interment will follow in the Ursina Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted at the cemetery. 02/19/2004 Daily American
