All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/somerset/ ________________________________________________ RICHARD FRANCIS YOUNKIN Grantsville, Maryland Richard Francis Younkin, 72, died at his home here about 4:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 19, after an illness of two years. His death was attributed to a heart attack from which he had been suffering for several days. Mr. Younkin was well known in this community where he had spent his entire life. He was born here March 4, 1869, a son of Cyrus and Annie Farrel Younkin. For many years he operated a blacksmith shop here. He retired from this business however, about twelve years ago. Forty-nine years ago, Sept. 14, 1892, he married Miss Barbara Yommer, also a native of the Grantsville section, who survives. He also leaves three children, Mrs. Ralph Glotfelty, Grantsville, Mrs. Carl Miller, Accident, and Emmons Younkin, Pittsburgh; four grandchildren; two sisters, Miss Cora Younkin, Grantsville, and Mrs. Charles Messersmith, Lester, Pa.; and three brothers, Thomas Younkin, George Younkin and Milton Younkin, all of Grantsville. Mr. Younkin was a life-long member of the Lutheran church from where funeral rites were held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon, Nov. 22. The service was conducted by the pastor, Rev. Samuel D. Sigler, and music was furnished by the church choir. Pallbearers were Harvey Gortner, Milton Rodamer, George W. Diefenbach, Adam A. Hanft, Daniel Klotz and William Schaefer. Interment was in the Grantsville Cemetery. The many and beautiful floral tributes were silent evidence of the esteem in which Mr. Younkin was held. Among those relatives and friends who came from a distance to attend the services were Mr. and Mrs. Emmons Younkin, Pittsburgh, Mrs. Emma Younkin and family, Akron, O., Mr. and Mrs. Charles Messersmith and James Evans, Lester, Pa., Mr. and Mrs. John Cochran, Mather, Pa., Mr. and Mrs. Robert Himler, Trafford, Pa., Mr. and Mrs. Blaine Stickler, Wilmerding, Pa., Mrs. George Smouse, Scottdale, Pa., and Mr. and Mrs. List Daniels, Spring Gap, Md.
