Mr. Yutzy, in company with two other men, Stanley J. Baca, 26, of Boswell, and Robert Decker, 25, of Garrett, had spent the day in Maryland seeking contracts for custom coal. They were returning, with Mr. Baca driving the new Chevrolet, when the car left the concrete road, traveled 68 yards on the berm and then crashed into a tree by the side of the road. The accident happened about 100 yards on the Pennsylvania side of the Mason- Dixon line, at a curve in the road where several other fatal automobile accidents have taken place. After the accident happened Friday evening, Mr. Yutzy was brought to the Hazel McGilvery Hospital, Meyersdale, in W. C. Price & Son's ambulance. Upon examination it was found he had a depressed skull fracture which required an immediate surgical operation, therefore, he was rushed to the Somerset Community Hospital in the Price ambulance. He never regained consciousness, and died at 3:45 Saturday morning. Mr. Yutzy's two companions suffered only minor body bruises and cuts for which they were treated at the Meyersdale hospital, after which they went to their homes. Mr. Baca's new Chevrolet was a total wreck, and was towed into the Baker Chevrolet Co. garage in Meyersdale. The radiator and motor were driven back under the dash. The frame and body were twisted and bent beyond repair. The windshield and windows were shattered and only one tire remained inflated. John Yutzy was a son of William and Louise (Romesburg) Yutzy and was born near Garrett, April 10, 1905. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Pearl (Hamilton) Yutzy, and nine daughters, all at home: Dorothy, Lottie, Virginia, Adeline, Audrey, Jean, Darlene, Emma, Grace and Nancy Jane Yutzy. He was a brother of Henry Yutzy of Cumberland, Md., who several years ago established a commendable record as an able prizefighter in Somerset County. Other brothers surviving are William of Farmington, Leroy, Samuel and Frank of Garrett and Calvin of Boswell. He is also survived by the following sisters: Mrs. Emma Adams, Indiana, Pa.; Mrs. Christina Hammer, in Florida; Mrs. Florence Eyler, Frederick, Md., and Mrs. Lottie Hinken, Farmington, Pa. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 in the Garrett Evangelical Church by the pastor, Rev. Lester Crum. Burial was made in the Garrett Cemetery under the direction of Johnson & Sons, Berlin morticians. Meyersdale Republican, May 1, 1941
