ZEHNER Charles Edward Zehner, aged 47 years and 9 months, died at his home on Negro Mountain on Friday morning, December 9th, after a long illness due to apoplexy. Mr. Zehner was a son of the late Henry and Margaret Zehner of this county, where he was born and lived most of his life. For several years he was a county school teacher. In 1910 he married Miss Pearl Cramer, after which he entered the railway mail service, working between Grafton, W.Va., and Washington, D.C. His health soon failed forcing him to resign his position. He then located in Ohio, but soon came back to Garrett County and bought a farm on Negro Mountain on which he lived ever since. He was a hard working, honest farmer, a good husband and a kind father. Nine years ago he suffered a stroke of apoplexy. Seven other strokes followed at various times, the last, nine months ago, rendered him entirely helpless, weakening his heart and gradually causing his death. He is survived by his wife, three sons, a daughter, two sisters, Mrs. John Opel, of Keyser's Ridge and Mrs. Frank Margroff, of Cove, Md., and four brothers, John Zehner, Grantsville; Henry Zehner, Epworth, N.D.; Rev. L. M. Zehner, Richville Corners, Ohio, and L. W. Zehner, Akron, O. Funeral services were held in the German Lutheran Church at Cove, Monday morning. Rev. H. H. Fichenscher was in charge. Burial was in the nearby cemetery. The pall-bearers were Charles, Oscar and Louis Harmon, Frederick Dunn, William Hanft and Melchoir Kelb. The funeral was largely attended, Mr. Zehner having been held in very high esteem by many friends. Meyersdale Republican, December 15, 1932
