He became worse a week ago, and suffered a stroke of paralysis. He was born in Lonaconing, Md., in 1874, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Zehner, but lived near and in Grantsville all his life. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Sadie (Bonig) Zehner, one son, Roy Zehner, Pittsburgh, Pa.; a daughter, Mrs. Robert Marshall, Grantsville; two grandsons, Alex and John Marshall; two sisters, Mrs. John Opel and Mrs. Tillie Margroff, Accident, Md.; three brothers, Rev. Lewis Zehner, Ridgeville Corners, Ohio; Henry Zehner, Garfield, Minn.; Lenn Zehner, Akron, Ohio. A short service was held at the home Sunday afternoon by Rev. H. H. Fickenscher, pastor of the German Lutheran Church of Cove, followed by funeral services at the Grantsville Lutheran Church with Rev. S. D. Sigler officiating. Pallbearers were Harvey Gortner, Harold Miller, Ralph Glotfelty, Emerson Sebolt, Harry Yommer and Adam Hanft. Interment was in the Grantsville cemetery. The floral offerings were many and very beautiful. Relatives and friends who attended from a distance were Roy H. Zehner, Pittsburgh, Pa.; Rev. Lewis Zehner, Richville Corners, Ohio; Leonard Zehner, Akron, Ohio; Sgt. Robert Zehner, North Carolina; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Margroff and family of the Cove, Mr. and Mrs. John Opel and family, Accident, Md.; Mrs. James Schriver, John Weevel, Mrs. Elizabeth Trenary, Mrs. Elizabeth Zilch, Miss Lou Schiller and Miss Jeanette Bonig, Cumberland; Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Pope, Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Merrell, Mr. and Mrs. Orville Crowe, Avilton; Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Michael, Long Stretch; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Pope, Meyersdale; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Harman, Accident, Md.; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Morrow, Somerset, Pa.; Miss Alverta Zehner, Cumberland; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Zehner of near Grantsville; Mr. and Mrs. William Petry, Salisbury; Mrs. Masie Ringer and daughter, Charles Stahl, Pittsburgh; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Richter, Cove; Mrs. Nell Zellers, Mr. and Mrs. C. G. Taylor, Frostburg, Md., and Mr. and Mrs. William Newberry, Cumberland. Interment was in the Grantsville cemetery. The passing of John Zehner leaves another vacancy in the community which will be hard to fill. Meyersdale Republican, April 1, 1943
